UW Canvas Learning Process

Eligibility
UW Faculty, UW staff, UW students, UW academic units and former students are Eligible for Canvas.
The main process is described in following four steps.
- You have to apply & enrolled for a course.
- Login with your UW NetID & Password.
- As soon as you register for classes through MyUW, you will automatically be added to your courses in Canvas
- Access Canvas Dashboard with all features.
Apply for UW NetID
UW NetID stands for University of Washington Network Identification. UW NetID and password are your account for accessing your UW information and other online services like UW Canvas & MyUW.
If you don’t have UW NetID, You can create it via following steps
- Navigate uwnetid.washington.edu/newid in your browser.
- In first step, you will find tree options to choose from

I have a UW NetID but no password
don’t have a UW NetID (or I’m not sure) - Choose 3rd option and click on Next button.
- Here, you have to Confirm your identity.
- Select appropriate option like UW Student or UW Faculty, Staff, Retiree or Affiliate Employee and click Next button.
- This will take you to the identity verification page where you can enter information like Name, D.O.B, Student Number and Private Access Code and click Next.
UW Canvas Login Guide
After getting your UW NetID, You can login & access all features of Canvas UW.
Here is the step by step guide to UW Canvas login, follow it and enjoy great experience.
1. Canvas Login through website in browser
Canvas is now University of Washington’s official Learning Management System (LMS). If you are taking an online class or a class with an online component, you will have access to log into UW Canvas account.
Follow this process to login into Canvas.
- Go to canvas.uw.edu to access main page of UW Canvas.
- Select the “W” University of Washington option and click Login.
- This prompts you to log in with your UW NetID & password.
- Here you can enter your UW NetID & password.
- Click on small Login button and access your Canvas.
- You can also click Dash in the lower-right corner.
- Dash will take you to all your online courses.
If you need more resources regarding UW login help or forgot your password, reset your password by going to forgot password page and provide the required details like UW NetID, Verify identity & validation code.

2. Access UW Canvas from a mobile device
In addition to the Canvas website, there are also UW Canvas mobile apps that you can use with your course. Canvas have different mobile apps for Students & Instructors.
U501 is built within Canvas, which is the online learning management system used at the UW. It is possible to access Canvas on your mobile device by using the Canvas by Instructure mobile application.
Canvas provides two mobile apps and which app one uses depends upon if you’re accessing a course as a student or as a teacher.
To access UW Canvas from mobile device, simply follow this instructions.
- Go to the IOS App Store or Android Play Store and download the “Canvas by Instructure mobile application” and/or the “Canvas Student by Instructure” app.
- After installing the app, open the Canvas Mobile.
- Once you have opened the app, you will be presented with a page to search for your College. Tap find your college or district.
- Enter “University of Washington” or “UW” and hit the arrow to continue. This will take you to WebAccess, where you will log in with your UW NetID & Password Credentials.
