People’s questions about Ohio State University & Canvas
Why isn’t the Canvas media recorder working?
The media recorder in CarmenCanvas is available to instructors and students within the rich text editor. Instructors have access to these tools when creating pages, discussions, assignments, or quizzes. Students have access when participating in discussions or submitting some types of assignments or quiz questions.
In December 2018, the vendor released an HTML5 version of the media recorder to replace the older Flash-based version.
Why isn’t the gradebook treating ungraded items as zero?
In the CarmenCanvas gradebook, the Total column displayed to instructors does not reflect assignments that have not been graded.
In previous versions of the gradebook tool, instructors could use a display setting to see the Total grade column as though scores of 0 had been entered for all ungraded assignments, but this is no longer an option.
How do I create student groups?
See What are Student Groups for a description regarding how groups function within Canvas.
There are three primary methods to create groups in Canvas. See the step-by-step guides for details.
- Manually create the groups
- Choose the number of groups you would like to create and randomly assign students to groups
